Hunting Downunder operates beside ‘The Mighty Mohaka River’ where there is great fishing for both rainbow and brown trout.

Long stretches of rapids entering deep pools provide an excellent opportunity for both the experienced and novice fisherman.

Trout fishing is a great way to spend a relaxing time casting into wild waters while enjoying pristine scenery, or for the more experienced fly fishermen, there’s always the chance of catching “The Big One”.

Any fish kept will be prepared for you to take home whether you would like it fresh or smoked.

If trout fishing isn’t your scene but you’d like a bit of fun with a handline, the Mohaka River is well known for producing eels of “Taniwha” proportions!!

These are also beautiful fresh or smoked.

Saltwater

Sunny Hawkes Bay is renowned for its beautiful warm climate and great sea fishing.

As Hunting Downunder is based only a little over an hour from the City of Napier's main wharf, we can also offer an amazing saltwater fishing experience.

Local fishing legend Paul Woolhouse, owner of one of the largest “Hunting and Fishing” stores in New Zealand has offered Hunting Downunder his services on “Gun’s N Tackle”, his 9.5 metre fishing boat.

Regular catches include Snapper, Kingfish, Terakihi and many others, as well as brilliant sport fishing after Tuna and Marlin if the season is right.

So to add a bit more variation to your safari for a small additional cost, it won’t be just venison you’ll be taking home.
